GaugeMaster Pro 2 Intro

Welcome to GaugeMaster Pro 2, the biggest update to GaugeMaster Pro since its launch!

In short: multi-gauge canvases, real-world measurement units, gauge size presets, color swatches, dark mode, canvas defaults, multi-copy printing and a full SVG export overhaul, plus many smaller improvements and fixes across the app. This page is the guided tour of everything that is new or has changed, with links to the full details on each manual page.

Your gauges now print at true size

GaugeMaster Pro 2 works in real-world measurement units: one canvas pixel is one standard CSS/SVG pixel (96 px = 1 inch = 25.4 mm), so the sizes you see on the canvas are true physical sizes, and printing is 1:1 by default. The forced print/PDF gauge diameter of previous versions is no longer the default behavior.

If you have files saved before GaugeMaster Pro 2, here is exactly what happens when you open them, so nothing changes in your output until you choose to change it:

• They open with the new Diam. Override option turned on, preserving their original print and export dimensions exactly. This is the old forced diameter behavior, but will only apply when printing single gauges.
• They open in px units, matching their original internal units.
• The new Text to Path SVG export defaults to off for them, keeping their old SVG output behavior.
• Their text layers load with V Align set to Full, preserving their original text positions.

When you are ready to go native, turn Diam. Override off to adopt true-size printing, switch the unit selector to your preferred unit, and optionally set a size preset as your design reference.

Keep backups of your pre-GaugeMaster Pro 2 files

Files saved with GaugeMaster Pro 2 cannot be opened on previous versions, so keep backup copies of the .gmpro files saved with previous versions until you are fully settled into GaugeMaster Pro 2.

The app always loads its latest version, but any browser windows opened before the release will keep running the old version until they are refreshed. Make sure to reload every open GaugeMaster Pro browser instance, so none of them is left working on 1.x.

New features

• Multi-Gauge Canvas - Design any number of gauges on a single canvas, and print or export the whole canvas or individual gauges.
• Measurement Units - Work with real-world measurement units and true physical sizes.
• Gauge Size Presets - EN 837 / ASME standard diameters as on-canvas design references, honored by the Gauge Wizards.
• Off-Center Gauges - Offset a preset-size gauge’s dial from the physical center of its face, in the classic car-instrument-cluster style.
• Color Swatches - Load preset color swatches with Adobe Swatch Exchange palette files, plus printed color matching aids.
• Dark Mode - Light, Dark and System color themes.
• Canvas Defaults - One-click Horology mode pre-shapes new layers for watch and clock faces.
• Text V Align - New vertical alignment option for text layers, with Digits centering dial numbers precisely on their arc widths in Tangent or Arc baseline.
• Multi-Copy Print - Print multiple copies with jig-friendly offsets and gutters.
• Text to Path SVG export - Flattened, laser-cutter-friendly SVG output that renders identically everywhere.
• Keyboard Shortcuts - Updated gauge management shortcuts.

Same features, clearer names

None of the renamed options changed their behavior, so your designs and workflow carry over untouched.

And a few behaviors are worth knowing about up front:

• The Global Snap values are now unit-aware, and are available through the same quick access modifier keys.
• Settings that don’t apply are now mostly hidden rather than grayed out, so if you cannot find a setting, check first if its feature needs to be enabled.
• Hidden layers and gauges cannot be clicked on the canvas, so nothing unseen gets selected by accident. Select hidden items from the Layers Sidebar instead.
